The Ecodesign Ready label will clearly inform consumers that the stove will meet the new stringent emission limits.

The Ecodesign Ready Scheme is to increase the environmental benefits of wood burning stoves and is supported by DEFRA and overseen by HETAS, who will independently verify that the stoves pass the Ecodesign tests. 
Ecodesign is a European-wide program to lower emissions. It is due to come into force in the UK in 2022 but most leading manufacturers in the SIA (Stove Industry Alliance) have decided to release stoves that will meet the lower emission limits now, and from 2020 to only manufacture wood-burning stoves that meet the new Ecodesign criteria, two years ahead of schedule. 

'Wood burning stoves also have strong green credentials as the CO₂ produced by SIA Ecodesign Ready stoves, when the logs are burnt, is absorbed by growing trees making them carbon neutral. In the government’s energy efficiency indicator logs have a significantly lower carbon factor than gas, oil or electricity.
Morley Sage, Chair of the SIA said, “Owners of an SIA Ecodesign Ready stove can be confident they are reducing their carbon footprint and helping to improve air quality, by using the best emissions and efficiency technology available.”

Independent research conducted by Kiwa Gastec on behalf of the SIA has shown that modern clean burning stoves, designed to meet the new Ecodesign requirements will reduce significantly emissions compared to an open fire and a stove of 10 years ago, shown here in this Eco design stove comparison graph:
